So, the professors of all three of my seminars began class by declaring their position on laptops/devices in the classroom: not allowed. All of them are trying this policy for the first time this semester, and I can’t say I blame them.
I’m really conflicted on this issue. On one hand, I can’t deny that tech can get in the way of learning in a live classroom environment. It’s all too easy to go onto Facebook, check my email or skim my Twitter feed when the class discussion lags. I had a professor in the fall who even demanded that we turn our phones before class.
That said, it’s so convenient to be able to organize all my readings using GoodReader. Having all my readings on my iPad allows me to easily search texts and retrieve notes, and most importantly, it saves me A LOT of money on printing and course packet costs.
I’ve already spent $92 on only two course packets, and I’m yet to buy the rest of my materials (other packets and textbooks).
